Improving Community Health Through Outreach & Prevention

Health and healing are not limited to traditional medical care or constrained within hospital walls. For example, health screening events are assessable to benefit all community members. The primary goal of screening events is to communicate the importance of health care. Screenings are about convenience, knowledge and overall wellness for all. Health screenings save lives.

The Value of Screenings
More than 1 million people are diagnosed with skin cancer annually in the United States, but with prevention and education you can save your body’s largest organ from a lifetime of damage.

"Staff members volunteer countless hours providing free programs and services to residents out in the community," stated Al Stubblefield, President & CEO, Baptist Health Care

In 2009, Baptist Health Care provided more than 4,000 community residents with free health care screenings.

These reliable tests range from heart and stroke risk assessments, body composition analysis, speech and hearing, breast and skin cancer risk, osteoporosis heel scans, blood glucose testing for diabetes, sleep disorder testing, vision and sports physicals for youth, including echocardiograms.

Baptist Health Care listens to our community and strives to provide health education that meets your needs. Last year more than 175 free seminars were provided on topics such as disease risk and awareness, medication training and support, fitness, mental health, pool and beach safety, and general health and wellness for the mind, body and spirit. We consider these an investment in the future of your health.

"We have a dependable history in this community. Our willingness to believe in something greater than ourselves has allowed us to grow over the years and emerge stronger to serve our neighbors better," said Stubblefield. "Our journey has never included short cuts or settling for less. Working toward an ambitious goal of improving the quality of life for those in our community is what we’re all about." stated Al Stubblefield

For the past five years, Baptist Health Care has offered community skin cancer screenings during the summer Blue Angels air show over Pensacola Beach.

Participants are offered the opportunity to discuss sun–exposed areas of concern with Baptist Health Care’s team of expert dermatologists and physicians who are leaders in prevention and overall care of skin cancer.

Each year, the event provides sun seekers the tools and resources needed for proper sun safety.
